Former President of National Restaurant Association has Ties to the Mitt Romney Campaign

UPDATE: 11/2/11 ~ 18:50 Why I do not believe it was Curt Anderson from the Perry Camp, despite Herman Cain's accusation.  http://northernvirginialawyer.blogspot.com/2011/11/cain-claims-perry-advisor-is-behind.html

UPDATE: 11/4/11 16:00 Steven C. Anderson may know more than he has suggested:
http://northernvirginialawyer.blogspot.com/2011/11/does-former-ceo-of-national-restaurant.html

Based on a suggestion from a local blogger to look into political donors on the Board of Directors of the National Restaurant Association for potential ties to presidential campaigns, I have attempted to identify anyone privy to inside information about the National Restaurant Association who also has recent ties to any presidential campaign.

According to the October 2011 FEC report for ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT INC. a gentlemen named Steven C. Anderson gave $1,000.00 on July 14, 2011.  FEC search function here.

Steven C. Anderson is the same gentlemen who took over the helm as Chief Executive Officer at the National Restaurant Association (after a brief intermission) upon Herman Cain's departure in 1999.  As CEO it is highly likely he would have been privy to details of litigation and threats about litigation from the immediately previous tenure of Herman Cain.

There is little more than a coincidence between the support for Mitt Romney and the likelihood that Mr. Anderson knows the background of the sexual harassment threats.  Nonetheless, watchers of this scandal endlessly pontificate about whether President Obama or a rival campaign is the driving force behind the bombshell story that appeared in the Politico on Sunday.

Reporters should follow-up with Mr. Anderson to discern his knowledge.  At the least he likely knows the short list of people with inside knowledge about the sexual harassment allegations.

~23:15 11/1/11 UPDATE: Apparently as this post has taken on a life of its own I need to clarify a few things.

1. This truly is the exact same Steven C. Anderson at the same address that gave donations while at the National Restaurant Association in the early 2000’s.

2. I have purposefully not listed his address, and made it slightly difficult to find.  There is an error in the FEC database that leads to a mistaken link for those who dig deeper.  Rest assured he made the donation.

3. He may not be the source.  If he is not, then he likely knows the short list of people who could have been the source.

Lastly, do not forget to follow @ppradoslaw on Twitter as I broadcast to thousands of conservatives libertarians, and a handful of patient moderates, democrats, and progressives.

  8. Oh, please. This isn't the work of Romney. This has Obama's name written all over it. His signature move is to exploit women, gays and minorities for political gain.

They aren't even subtle about it:

"News Release: National Restaurant Association Elects McDonald’s Corporation’s Steven Hilton to Serve on Board of Directors

    October 05, 2011

(Washington, D.C.) The National Restaurant Association has added Steven Hilton, Vice President of Government Relations for McDonald’s Corporation, to its Board of Directors. Hilton was inducted at the Association’s fall 2011 board meeting in Washington, D.C., last month and will serve through Dec. 31, 2013, when he is eligible to renew his commitment...

...In his role at McDonald’s, Hilton leads the corporate government relations team, which manages McDonald’s state, federal and international government activities. He is responsible for building and protecting the brand through shaping public policy.

Prior to joining McDonald’s in 2009, Hilton was a successful lobbyist and attorney representing clients like the National Football League, American Legion and Bombardier Aerospace. He has also worked closely with senior government leadership including holding a position on President Obama’s transition team in 2008 and serving as deputy assistant to the President/Chief of staff under President Clinton. He also served as a senior legislative assistant and later Judiciary Committee Chief Counsel for Senator Arlen Specter.

Hilton is a proud 25-year veteran, having achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. President Clinton also appointed Hilton as a commissioner of the American Battle Monument Commission which was responsible for the construction of the World War II, and the Korean War Memorials on the National Mall..."

The Obama Camp obviously wanta to get rid of Cain in the primary and run against Romney in the general election. So, while they are smearing and trying to destroy Cain, they are quietly dampening all enthusiasm for Romney on conservative forum, like FR. That way Obama can run against a divided conservative vote bloc with enthusiasm 'against' the candidates rather than in support of any charismatic candidate.

This former President of the NRA probably has no knowledge or recollection of Godfather's Pizza's Human Resource records from before his employment and before Herman Cain was in the public eye. Jut. Please.

    This is a red herring.

  9. I'm as big of a Cain-iac as the rest of you, but isn't this reaching a little? A donation does not a smearer make. Seems a little presumptuous at this point...

  10. "Anonymous said...
Wasn't Mr Romney involved earlier is digging up dirt on fellow Reps?"

Hmmm? Mr. Cucumber Sammich? 'Mittens-yawn-yawn-Romney' was rolling in the mud? Was he? I don't remember that so much myself.

I mean, I'm no Romney supporter but what the h*ll kind of vague and curious comment is this? To what are you referring specifically?

Yup, this fracking reeks of Obama's dirty politics...sabotage two birds with one stone: Cain and Romney. Yah, right. As if.

  11. Don't look at romney, instead look at the guilt on perry's face during the new hampster speech. perry looks like the guilty party and someone is offsetting (pointing at romney) the damage to garner support for perry. don't forget the negative sneeky stuff of perry's new campaign staff when working for scott.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The way I see it, it's either Obama, Romney, or Perry. there was a rumor out a couple of weeks back that Perry was going to go after Cain. Perhaps this is the fruit of that rumor.

That said, I'm more inclined to believe it is Obama or Romney. Obama does not like any conservative to begin with, and Romney's been sitting back and watching, and in some cases been actively helping, candidates destroy themselves. He knows he isn't that likeable, so if he can make himself the best-looking option, he wins. If this is true, then hopefully the buck will stop with Cain.

  13. The GOP is going to keep right on trying to shove Mittens down our throats until they hand the Presidency back to the fidiot USurper who now squats in our White House.
I refuse to have another GOP candidate shoved down my throat and just in case you're listening GOP man's club....I am not alone! WE THE PEOPLE are going to choose the President this time..Not you, Not the media , not political pundits and certainly not dirty politicians!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am attempting to find anyone who cares? Nada, so far. I would guess Obama/Romney with the greatest interest in lowering the boom on Mr. Cain's very definite and surprisingly persistent and substantially increasing threat.

    ReplyDelete
  15. You should investigate the "accuser's" attorney. He seems like a good source.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Herman did say (if I recall correctly)that his immediate predecessor and immediate successor as NRA CEO would have had direct knowledge of the complaints and the financial settlement.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The CEO of any company gets briefed on these kinds of complaits. He knew. The question is was he the leaker. If Romney gets in (please God don't do this to us) we will know when the guy gets a nice cabinet post or Ammbassorship.

    ReplyDelete
  18. My typing sucks. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You guys are as crazy as the birthers. Why would Romney want to release this info now before Iowa even has voted for Cain, letting Perry get back into the race?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Whether its Romney (which I believe it is) or Mr. Obama who "leaked" this garbage doesn't matter. All that this trash talk has done has galvanized an army of people around Herman Cain. I had not made up my mind as to which candidate I was going to support. But watching this kind of attack on a man that by all accounts has a great idea for fixing the country has had the opposite effect that the "leaker" intended. Just know the harder you RINOS push Romney the harder we are going to push back! He is NOT going to be the Nominee for this party and someone better break the news to Mitt.

  21. Cain and Romney are both flip floppers, and liars.. They really bring nothing new but the status quo..caqin brings in a new tax we don't want or need.. These two puppets are so plastic and do nothing to save america.. Ron Paul is the only one who has a plan to cut spending by 1 trillion his 1st yr. and is the only one who has a balanced budget in 3yrs.. Everyone else is the same old crap, WAKE UP AMERICA! See who the real people like you ,and i are donating to RON PAUL 2012 or status quo!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Is it possible to just once not have the PaulBots posting "RON PAUL 2012"???

    ReplyDelete
  23. Paulbots are a sign of influence. I take it as a compliment. BTW I am an old school Ron Paul supporter (dating back to the late 1990's).

    ReplyDelete
  24. Great work, Mr. Prados

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congrats! Rush Limbaugh just read this entire post on air.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Rick Perry's campaign is behind the release of this story. Mitt Romney loves having Herman Cain in the race to stop Rick Perry from gaining traction.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cain is horrible, easily as bad as Obama.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It is Curt Anderson!! He was Cain's consultant for his Senate race and is now Perry's. He knew!! It is obviously Anderson and Perry!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't get people who say things like: "Go Cain!". Go? Why? You might as well say: "Go Mickey Mouse!". How many times must Cain be shown contradicting himself on things? He's pro-life but thinks a woman can choose. WTF? He's a nobody that 99% of Americans had never heard of until he decided to run for president. But then we found out he was chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve, supported the TARP bailouts and now - just like every other politician - is embroiled in scandal.I guess when you having nothing else in your life to get excited about.

  30. Romney family has CLOSE, CLOSE ties with Marriott family.

Mitt is EVEN named after J. Willard Marriott, who was his father's best friend.

Mitt was on board of Marriott.

    J. Willard Marriott's son, Dick, was the HEAD OF THE NATIONAL RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION.

Romney has an inside track with the NRA.

  31. Those that are saying this is the democrats or 0bama that brought this out need to check the dates. If this came out in October of 2012 then it would be likely from 0bama. But this is October of 2011. This is another republican candidates doing and NOT 0bama.

    ReplyDelete
  32. People who are saying this is the work of Obama aren't thinking clearly. If Obama had this info, he would sit on it until he was running against Cain in the general election. This certainly would be a bombshell then, when it is too late for the republicans to change their candidate. I think Obama fears running against Romney most. Obama would do nothing to hurt Cain right now. He would take Cain over Romney as his opponent anyday.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Didn't Hermain Cain himself just today say that Perry was behind this? Perry recently hired Curt Anderson who worked on Cain's 2004 campaign and Cain told this guy all about the sexual discrimination allegation history.

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/richardminiter/2011/11/02/herman-cain-sexual-harassment-leak/

    ReplyDelete
  34. Are Curt Anderson (the consultant) and Stephen C. Anderson (the National Restaurant Association's CEO) the same person? I can't find any info about this anywhere.

In Curt Anderson's response, he says that he heard the story from Cain during the senate race, where Anderson was Cain's advisor. He doesn't say anything about working for the NRA.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would really like to have some links to the information/websites and such this research was obtained from. It would be most helpful in proving this theory. Thanks so much

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't *think* it is Mitt Romney for all kinds of reasons: 1. He tends to run pretty clean campaigns, 2. He is friends with Cain and likes him. 3. He does not fear Cain and has not lost any standing to Cain. And of course, the evidence in this post is extremely miniscule.

On the other hand, the links between *potential* sources and the Perry Camp are legion. Its a really big group! No smoking gun though. I hope its not Perry. But it *might* be.

All in all, I think its just liberals. They can't stand people like Cain or Palin who violate their stereotypes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I do not think it was Obama. As an earlier post mentioned, Obama would sit on this information until the general election when he could do more damage with it. I also do not think it was Romney for similar reasons. Romney does not need to go negative yet. He is still the establishment darling and the GOP race is going to come down to Romney and somebody else. Until the "somebody else" is selected, in the early primaries there is no reason for him to throw mud yet. That will come in about February or March.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Holy shit Batman!!

Turns out the Cain campaign are positive the leak came from the perry campaign. Go figure...
But how could 100 dumbass commentators be so blatantly wrong in their preemptive blame of Romney??
    What a bunch of jackasses!!!
